Photographing the Mountains of Versalles, Colombia
On a recent visit to Versalles, a little mountain pueblo tucked away in Valle del Cauca, Colombia, I had the chance to photograph some of the stunning landscapes that surround the area. It’s one of those quiet, peaceful towns that you might pass by on a map—but once you’re there, the scenery grabs you. Nestled in the western Andes, Versalles offers rolling green hills, crisp mountain air, and that kind of slow-paced charm that makes you want to sit and stay a while.
Even though I didn’t get to explore as much as I would’ve liked on this trip, I still managed to capture a few beautiful moments—thanks to my iPhone 16 Pro Max and a favorite app of mine, 65x24. If you haven’t heard of it, the 65x24 app is designed for photographers who love the ultra-wide cinematic feel of the classic Hasselblad XPan film camera. It lets you shoot in that striking 65:24 aspect ratio, right from your phone. For someone like me who’s a little obsessed with panoramic framing, it’s perfect. Most of the shots from this trip were done with that app, and I love how it brought out the vastness and drama of the mountain landscapes.
Looking ahead, I’m already planning a return trip—this time with more time carved out specifically for photography. There’s so much more I want to see, especially beyond Versalles, deeper into Colombia’s Coffee Zone (Eje Cafetero). If you’ve never been, this region is one of the most beautiful in the country. It spans across Caldas, Quindío, Risaralda, and parts of Valle del Cauca and Tolima. Known for its lush coffee plantations, colorful towns, and incredible biodiversity, it’s a dream for photographers and nature lovers alike.
